When you use SplitLedger, we collect:

• Account information: email address, optional display name, default currency, timezone, and a hashed password (or a federated identifier if you sign in with Google).
• Transaction data: amounts, currencies, dates, descriptions, and the participants you record on each transaction.
• Contacts: names and optional emails of people you add to track shared expenses with.
• Device and usage data: basic technical information such as app version, platform, and error reports.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and operate the service: store your transactions, compute balances, and sync across your devices.
• Send service-related communications (e.g., invitations you initiate, important account messages).
• Diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and improve the product.

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only:

• With other SplitLedger users you have explicitly linked transactions or contacts with.
• With third-party service providers (cloud hosting, error tracking such as Sentry, basic product analytics) that process data on our behalf under their own terms.
• When required by law or to protect our legal rights.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in PostgreSQL on managed cloud infrastructure. Passwords are hashed and are never stored in plain text. All connections are encrypted via TLS.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and transaction history for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.

6. Your Rights

You may:

• Access and update your personal information through the app.
• Request a copy of your data.
• Request deletion of your account.

7. Children

SplitLedger is not intended for use by children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email.
